The Hesitation of Wang Bo
Wang Bo ascended the pavilion in Nanchang(Yuzhang)and composed the timeless masterpiece, Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng(Tengwang Ge) at a banquet. Later, as he traveled further south, he fell into the water in Jiaozhi (present-day Vietnam) and passed away.
“The old capital of Yuzhang”
An intruder, a mediocre start
This is how I frame my prose at the end
Of the party. A long journey made me feel
It is too far to recall something yesterday
But closer ten years away. I have
Praised too much, made me look cruel
And drunken in front of all guests
Otherwise, I must be floating in the sunset
Lifted up high, higher than Tengwang Ge
So I can see further enough, like a crescent
Seeing the river. Then, leaves fall as
Guests start to leave the party
A party must have an end. Even after
Such a miracle, and they all knew
It would last forever, longer than Tengwang Ge
Built, burn and fall. I don’t have too much sorrow
The music of Autumn, a pair of hands playing us
Flowing through. Butterflies, mostly homeless
If you asked, a ghost under water
Calm, with pride and the clarity of sound
